Clear answers when you need them
Find help with KitDone, from adding your first gear and preparing a job to using Return Check. You’ll also find answers about scheduling, reminders, shoot locations, and how your data is stored.
Getting started and adding gear
How do I get started with KitDone?
Start by adding your equipment to My Gear when you set up the app. Choose items from the catalog or add them manually, and enter how many you own. Your list stays saved so you can choose what you need for each job without entering your gear again.
If you have a lot of gear or you’re short on time, start with what you need for your next job and build the rest of your list as you go.
What if my gear isn’t in the catalog?
Use Manual Entry to add its name, category, and the quantity you own. Once saved, it appears in My Gear and can be selected for jobs just like any item added from the catalog.
You don’t need a serial number to get started. Just enter the basic details you need to recognize and select your gear.
What if I own more than one of the same item?
Enter how many you own when you add the item, then choose how many you need for each job. For example, if you own three batteries but only need two, assign two to the job.
KitDone tracks available quantities and those assigned to jobs, so you know what’s available as you prepare.
Can I save a group of gear I use regularly?
Yes. Save a group of gear as a Kit, such as an event photography kit or a product photography kit, then add it to your job all at once.
This saves you selecting the same items repeatedly. You can still review each job’s needs and check that the kit you’ve chosen is suitable.
Job preparation and Return Check
How do I create a new job?
Create a new job, give it a name, set the date and time, then choose the gear and quantities you need from My Gear or Saved Kits. You can also add the shoot location, notes, and a reminder before the scheduled time.
Then use the job’s gear list to start preparing and mark the items you have ready.
What’s the difference between Save Progress and Confirm Readiness?
Use Save Progress when you pause preparation and want to continue later. The app saves what you’ve done, and the job stays in the preparation stage.
Use Confirm Readiness once all the gear you need is ready. If a battery is still charging or you haven’t put an item with the rest of your gear, use Save Progress until you’ve finished.
What happens if I need the same gear for more than one job?
KitDone shows the available quantity and how much is assigned to other jobs. If there isn’t enough for your job, it flags the conflict for you to review before you select Confirm Readiness.
Review the job dates and required quantities, then allocate your gear based on which job is next and what each one needs.
How do I use Return Check?
After the shoot, open Return Check and review the list of gear you took with you. As you pack up, check the items and quantities you have against the list and mark what you’ve recovered.
Once you’ve checked everything, use Confirm Gear Return before closing the job. It’s best to do this while you’re still on location, so you can look for anything missing before you leave.
Scheduling, reminders, and location details
How do I set a reminder for a shoot?
When creating or editing a job, set the shoot date and time, then choose how far in advance you want a reminder. Make sure KitDone notifications are allowed on your device so the alert can appear.
Reminders run locally on your device. The reminder time you choose must be in the future.
What if my reminder doesn’t arrive or arrives late?
First, check that you’ve set a reminder for the job. Then check that KitDone notifications are allowed in your device settings.
On Android, you may also need to allow Alarms & reminders for alerts to arrive on time. If the app shows a message that notifications are disabled or a reminder couldn’t be set, follow the action shown with the message, then return to the app to check its status.
How do I save a shoot location and project notes?
In the job details, enter the location name and add a link, such as a Google Maps link or a location link you received through WhatsApp. You can also add notes you’ll need to refer to, such as directions, shoot requirements, or details agreed in advance.
These details stay with the job, keeping its date, time, location, and notes in the same place as your gear.
Offline use and data storage
Can I prepare my gear and check its return offline?
Yes. KitDone’s core features work without an internet connection, including job preparation, gear review, and Return Check.
Even on locations with poor reception or no connection, you can open your gear list, check each item as you pack up, and confirm that it’s back before you leave.
Opening a location link in an external maps app depends on that app’s features and the maps available on your device.
Do I need an account, and where is my data stored?
You can use KitDone without creating an account or signing in. Your gear, jobs, schedule, and notes are stored locally on your device.
The current version has no cloud sync to transfer this data automatically between your devices.
Can I back up my data and restore it?
Yes. In Settings, Export Backup saves your gear, jobs, bags and kits to a .kitdone file, and Restore Backup reads that file back on this or another device. The file does not contain your purchase; the store restores that.
Deleting the app or clearing its data removes your local data. Before you remove the app or change devices, export a backup and keep the file somewhere safe.
Free jobs, purchase and recovery
How do the free jobs and the purchase work?
You can complete 5 jobs for free. A job counts when you confirm that its gear is ready. After that, one purchase, Full Access, unlocks KitDone permanently. It is not a subscription.
Payment is handled by Google Play on Android and by the App Store on iPhone. Your jobs and gear stay on your device.
How do I restore my purchase?
On the purchase screen, tap Restore purchase while signed in with the same Google account (Android) or Apple Account (iPhone) that you bought with.
After you reinstall, KitDone also checks the store for your purchase when it opens, so Full Access normally returns on its own.
The app won’t start a free trial and shows a request code. What now?
If you reinstalled KitDone or use a device that was used before, the app may not be able to continue your trial on its own. It then shows a request code that starts with KR-. Email it to [email protected] and we will look at your request.
The code alone changes nothing, and you should never send your trial recovery code. A reinstall never resets your used free jobs. On Android, support can link your new installation to your earlier trial when it applies. On iPhone, KitDone first restores your earlier trial by itself from a code kept in the iPhone’s Keychain; if that isn’t possible, for example on a new iPhone, send the request code together with the support code of your earlier installation (Settings → Support code) and, after we check it is yours, support can link your new installation. You can always unlock KitDone with a purchase and restore it with your Apple Account.
